JB’s Log 17/02
Tuesday’s sessions are the hardest of my week and today was no exception:
Speed Bench Press: 105kg x 3 reps x 6 sets
Deadlift: 177.5kg x 5 reps x 5 sets
Squat: 160kg x 8 reps x 4 sets
1 arm deadlift: 140kg x 1 because we were pratting about and wanted to take a crack, I love a challenge :). Found it very difficult to balance the bar at the top.
I’ve recently been trying to deadlift with more focus on engaging my lats, after learning the importance of the lats in an article HERE by therapist and coach Dean Somerset.
I’m doing this because the lats play an enormous role in keeping our spine stable. We often look at the lats as a shoulder stabiliser but they actually have a ton of insertion points on the spine, as shown in the picture below. Great to know for people like me who get back pain when deadlifting and have a spine made out of cardboard.
Stay strong!
